Salford Museum and Art Gallery

Metaphor masterplanned a major redevelopment of this popular regional museum. The client was seeking to create a museum that would reach out to a wider audience without losing pre-existing visitors and play a major role in the regeneration of Salford. Metaphor’s work combines new thinking on the Grade II listed building, the design of the exhibitions, the way it relates to its audience, its role in the community and its partnership with the adjacent university. Highlights of the design included a mass display of domestic and personal artefacts, animated through audio and light to create ‘object theatre’; as well as a reimagined historic streetscape.
