When the pandemic struck, the National Mining Museum Scotland and Metaphor were working closely together - along with a team of architects, business planners, cost consultants and event organisers - to develop a twenty-year masterplan for the Museum’s future. In mid-March, with the advent of the lockdown, this process was unavoidably halted.
The question of how the Mining Museum could offer a safe and sustainable visitor offer became of paramount importance. Metaphor supported the museum to work through the spatial and financial practicalities of an alternate visitor experience to present a new, safe offer to the public which would strengthen the Museum’s reputation and set it up for a post-COVID future.
