Metaphor worked closely with the architect Eric Parry in developing a combined and integrated experience of exhibition and building. Metaphor was responsible for the exhibition design of the permanent exhibition galleries and the welcome experience.

To date the exhibition has been awarded the 'Museums and Heritage Permanent Exhibition Award', the 'Civic Trusts Award - Michael Middleton Award' and was chosen as the Architects' Journal's 'Building of the Year'.
